Wow, what a day
yesterday Sunday was at the Leven Vintage Vehicle Rally. The cars started to arrive as we opened up the yard at 8 am. Visitors dribbled to begin with, shortly afterwards. However by 11am, when the steamers arrived, so did the crowds.
We had no way of counting the visitors that came through our gate [we'll be purchasing a £2 counter for next time Ed.] but we estimate well over a 1,000 came to enjoy the big day. Out of the 15 classes of vehicles all but two were contested. Their shiny paintwork shone in the lovely sunshine.
The visitor car parking on the football pitch was well organised and controlled by a crew from the Methil Sea Cadets. Their assistance was extremely helpful and they enjoyed their involvement and have pledged they will assist again whenever we are holding another event.
There were around 100 vehicles in total turning up for display this year, this being around 5 times the size of any event we have held in the past. Quite a jump for a small group like ours. However, it does show, that our ground is ably suitable to hold events like this! Our facilities on site are a little basic but we do hope to upgrade them in the coming year.
All who took part were very well aware that this was our first and very novice attempt at a rally such as this.
We have learnt a great deal in arranging this and will start to plan the 50th year anniversary meeting for 2015 next week.
Anyone who missed this rally missed an amazing day, so look out for our upcoming event, Doors Open Day 2014 and also next years 50th anniversary Leven Vintage Vehicle Rally!
